This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & possibly the 2015) GM Chevrolet Cruze in replacing the key fob battery.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Spark, Sonic, Volt, Malibu, Camaro, Corvette, Impala, Equinox, Traverse, Suburban, Tahoe, Avalanche, Colorado, Silverado, Express, Cadillac ATS, XTS, CTS, SRX, Escalade, Buick Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore, GMC Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon and Savana may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement coin, "button" or "watch" cell battery for the key fob is part number CR2032 available from manufacturers such as GE, Sony, Duracell, Energizer, Panasonic and Maxell.

No tools are needed to change the key fob battery.

The first step is to eject the flip out or "switchblade" style metal ignition key by pressing the round chrome button at the top left of the fob.

Then insert your thumb in to the slot where the ignition key used to reside and firmly pull off the rectangular battery cover on the back side of the fob.

Flip over the key fob and let the old battery fall out of its socket.

If the battery won't pop out, try gently tapping the fob on your work surface or carefully pry out the battery with a small flathead screwdriver.

Make sure that the rear cover is flush with the key fob at every edge.

Rotate the flip out ignition key back in to the slot on the side of the fob.

Stand next to your Cruze and test the new key fob battery by pressing the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons. If the battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash and hear the doors locking and unlocking.
