This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Chevrolet Tahoe in changing a burnt out dome or rear passenger courtesy reading light bulb above the 2nd row of seats.

Owners of related General Motors vehicles such as the Suburban, Avalanche, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali, Sierra, Cadillac Escalade and Hummer H2 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

Replacement "festoon", "fuse" or "rigid loop" style bulbs are part number 212-2 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko, Wagner and PIAA.

You may also choose to use a brighter LED unit.

The only tool needed to replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool used to pry open the hinged plastic lens cover.

Pull Out Old Bulb
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of the screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Carefully insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the left (passenger side) edge of the translucent lens cover.

Gently pry open the hinged lens cover and swing it over to the left side.

Push In New 212-2 Bulb
If the old bulbs were recently illuminated, be careful since they may be hot enough to burn your skin.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.

Push a new # 212-2 festoon bulb in to the socket.

You may also choose to use a brighter LED unit.

(Tip - If you're using an LED bulb and it doesn't light up, try reversing the bulb's position in the socket.)
