Halloween
Pennant Dragonflies - Boca Raton, FL
Pictures of Halloween Pennant Dragonflies
(Celithemis Eponina) seen on a lawn in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida.
One morning, I
discovered that the lawn outside our home in Boca Raton was covered with
Halloween Pennant (Celithemis Eponina) dragonflies perched at the tops
of blades of grass and weed stems. I went out to photograph the swarm of dragonflies with my new Canon S5 IS "super zoom" digital camera. The Halloween Pennant species of dragonflies have entirely orange or yellow wings with dark brown (not black) bands. These insects are in season all year long in Florida but are also found in other parts of central and eastern North America. The are usually seen perched near ponds, lakes, marshes, and other fresh bodies of water. |
