This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010)
Honda Odyssey minivan in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb
in the housing attached to the underside of the tailgate door. Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Civic, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, HR-V, Fit, Element, Insight, Pilot, Ridgeline, Clarity, Crosstour, Elysion, ILX, TSX, TLX, TL, RLX, RDX, NSX and MDX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb part number is DE3175. You can also use a brighter LED unit. The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a plastic trim panel removal tool or a flathead screwdriver. |

Old Bulb Exposed |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces, I recommend either using a plastic trim
panel removal tool or cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro
fiber cloth. Insert the blade of the screwdriver into one of the notches on the rear edge of the lens cover. Gently pry out the rear edge of the lens cover. Try to avoid using excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily. Remove the lens cover from the housing and set it aside in a safe place. |

If the old light
bulb was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your
fingers. Be careful when you remove it. Grasp the old light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket. The OEM bulb was marked as part number Toshiba A12V8W. |

Push a new number

straight into the socket. If you would like to have a brighter cargo area light, install a compatible LED bulb. Test the new light bulb by sliding the "On / Off" switch to the "On" position. If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try removing it from the socket, flipping it 180 degrees and pushing it back into the socket. It might be a "polarized" bulb that must be installed in the correct orientation. Line up the translucent plastic lens cover with the light housing. |

First, re-insert
the tabs on the front edge (closer to the front of the minivan) back into
the housing. Then gently pop in the clips on the rear edge. Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records. For more, check out all of my
