This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015) Honda Pilot SUV in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console.

Owner's of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Odyssey, Insight, Ridgeline, CR-V, Fit, Civic, CR-Z, Crosstour, Accord, MDX, RDX, RLX, TL, TSX and ILX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement "festoon" or "fuse" style light bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA and Eiko.

If you would like to have brighter map lights, install some compatible DE3175 LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the translucent plastic lens cover.

Pry Out Metal End Cap
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver in between the inner edge of the lens cover and the overhead console.

Gently pry out the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place.

Be careful when you pull out the old bulb. If it was recently illuminated, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Either pull out the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger, or very gently pry out one of the metal end caps with the flathead screwdriver.

Do not apply pressure to the glass part of the old bulb to prevent from having it shatter and send shards of glass flying in to your face and eyes.
