How to change a brake, turn signal,
side marker, parking & reverse bulb in the tail lights of a 2010 to 2015 Hyundai
Tucson.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the 2nd generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015)
Hyundai Tucson SUV in changing a burnt out brake, turn signal, rear
side marker, parking and reverse bulbs in the tail light assemblies. Owners of other Hyundai and Kia vehicles such as the Accent, Elantra, Sonata, Azera, Veloster, Tiburon, Genesis, Lavita, Veracruz, Santa Fe, ix35, Equus, Cadenza, Forte, Optima, Rio, Soul, Sedona, Sorento, Spectra and Sportage may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement tail light bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Brake # 2357, Turn Signal # 1156, Rear Side Marker # 168, Parking Light Bulb # 2357 and Reverse # 921. The tools needed to replace the bulbs include a Phillips head screwdriver and an automotive panel removal pry bar tool. |

The first two steps
are to open the rear cargo tailgate door and then move to the side of the
vehicle with the burnt out tail light bulb. Remove the two Phillips head screws on the inner edge of the tail light housing with a Phillips head screwdriver. Set the two screws aside in a safe place. |

Pull the tail light
assembly straight off the rear of the vehicle. If you have trouble removing the housing, try gently wiggling it back and forth while pulling it. If necessary, use a small plastic pry tool on the outer edge of the housing to disengage the metal pegs or "spikes" that act as friction fasteners inserted in to plastic grommets. |

Turn over the tail
light housing and rest it on the bumper to access the bulb sockets. Rotate the black plastic Brake Light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove it from the housing. |

Push the old brake
light bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn counterclockwise
before pulling it straight out. Push in a new # 2357 bulb and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place. |

Rotate the orange
plastic Rear Turn Signal light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise
before pulling it straight out of the housing. Push the old bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the socket. Push a new # 1156 bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Re-insert the
orange turn signal bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn
clockwise to lock it in place. Rotate the small grey Rear Side Marker light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it out of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 168 bulb. If necessary, you may also be able to use any other miniature wedge base light bulbs such as the # 158, 2825, W5W, 194 or a brighter LED unit. |

Re-insert the side
marker bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to
secure it in place. Line up the two metal pegs or "spikes" on the rear of the tail light housing with their plastic grommets. You'll also need to line up the "C" shaped white plastic slot with the white plastic pop rivet fastener on the outer edge of the vehicle. Gently push the tail light housing back in place. |

Re-insert the two
Phillips head screws on the inner edge of the housing and tighten them in
the clockwise direction until they are snug. Try to avoid over tightening the two screws to prevent from cracking the plastic housing. The parking light and reverse light bulbs are located in a separate housing attached to the tailgate door. |

To replace the two
bulbs, open the tailgate door and locate the rectangular plastic access
panel. Insert a flathead screwdriver or a plastic automotive panel removal tool in to the notch and gently pry out the access cover. Set the plastic panel aside in a safe place. |

The larger socket
closer to the outer edge is the Parking light and the smaller socket
closer to the center line of the vehicle is the Reverse light. Rotate the larger grey parking light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. Push the old bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it out. Push a new # 2357 bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Re-insert the
parking light bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise
to lock it in place. Rotate the smaller grey reverse bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it out of the housing. If you have trouble turning the reverse bulb socket, use a pair of needle nose pliers. It may also be helpful to slide the white plastic electrical connector off its mounting bracket to give yourself extra room to work. |

Pull the old
reverse bulb straight out of the socket. Push a new # 921 wedge base bulb in to the socket. |

Re-insert the
reverse bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to
secure it in place. If you removed the white plastic electrical connector, slide it back on to its mounting bracket. Re-insert the plastic tabs on the rear edge of the access panel in to the tailgate. |

Then gently pop in
the front edge of the access panel. Test the new tail light bulbs by turning on the headlights, have someone step on the brake pedal, activate the hazard signals and place the transmission in reverse. For more,
