This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) Hyundai Veloster in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb in the "trunk".

Owners of other Hyundai or Kia vehicles such as the Elantra, Sonata, Azera, Santa Fe, Tucson, Accent, Ioniq, Genesis, Tiburon, ix20, i20, i30, i40, Veracruz, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento, Sedona, Rio, Forte and Spectra may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A compatible replacement "festoon" style light bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

If you want a brighter cargo light, choose a compatible DE3175 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver.

Press Release Tab
Disconnect Power Plug
Push Black Plastic Tab
The first step is to open the tailgate door to access the cargo area.

Then locate the light housing on the right side of the cargo area.

Use a small flathead screwdriver to gently push in the plastic tab on the rear edge of the light housing.

Pull the light housing out of the plastic cargo area panel.

Push the release tab on the electrical connector before sliding it off the end of the light housing.

Push in the two black plastic tabs on the rear cover before pulling it off.

Push In 2nd Plastic Tab
Remove Black Cover
Pull Back Electrical Contact
Pull off the black plastic rear cover and set it aside in a safe place.

Be careful when you remove the old light bulb. If it was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Gently pull back the gold / copper colored electrical contact to release the old bulb from the socket.

Install New Light Bulb
Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket.

The old bulb was marked as part number KHA12V5W 16K16H.

Push a new number DE3175 festoon style light bulb in to the socket.

Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing it and flipping it around in the socket. It might be a polarized light bulb.

Push On Black Cover
Snap In To Place
Push On Power Plug
Line up the black plastic rear cover and gently pop it back in to place.

Push the power plug straight on to the end of the housing until it clicks securely in to place.

Re-Insert Wires First
Pop In Retaining Clip
Test New Cargo Light
Re-insert the wires and the rear edge of the housing back in to the cargo area panel first.

Then gently snap in the retaining clip on the rear edge of the light housing to secure it in place.

If the new cargo area light bulb didn't turn on immediately when you re-attached the electrical connector, test it by pressing the "Unlock" button on the key fob or open and close the cargo area hatchback door.
