This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 4th generation "WK2" (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016) Jeep Grand Cherokee in cleaning or changing the engine air filter for the Pentastar 3.6 liter V6 motor.

Owners of other Jeep, Chrysler, RAM, Volkswagen, Fiat and Lancia vehicles equipped with the Pentastar 3.6L V6 motor such as the Wrangler, 200, 300, Town & Country, Ram 1500, C/V Cargo Van, Avenger, Challenger, Charger, Durango, Grand Caravan, Journey, VW Routan, Freemont, Voyager and Thema may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A few replacement filters with their part numbers are as follows: Wix 49756, Fram CA10755, Pentius PAB10755, Mahle LX 3230, AEM 28-20457, aFe 30-10218, Premium Guard PA6116, Purolator A36116 and Hastings AF1453.

Pull Out Old Engine Filter
The first two steps are to pop open the hood and then move to the engine air filter box located on the right (driver) side of the engine bay.

The top half of the air box is held in place by two metal latches on the right side.

Release the latches by flipping the fasteners away from the air box and allow them to swing down.

Lift off the top half of the air box and slide out the old air filter element.

Clean With Vacuum
Clean out any sand or other debris from the bottom half of the air box with a wet/dry shop vacuum.

Inspect both sides of the old engine air filter.

If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, insects, twigs, leaves and hair, it should be replaced with a new element.

I recommend buying the Fram CA10755 engine air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

Flip up the two metal latches on the right side of the lower half of the box and snap them in place over the top half of the air box.

Make sure that no part of the air filter is visible and that the two halves of the air box are flush together all the way around.
