One of the
most popular recreational activities in the Florida Keys is snorkeling
due to the abundance of coral reefs and ocean life in the surrounding
waters. During our weekend visit in Key Largo, we made reservations at the nearby John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park to join one of their snorkeling tours. The fee for the snorkeling tour is $29.95 per adult and $24.95 for children under 18 years of age. It's best to have your own mask, snorkel and fins, but the park office also rents and sells all the necessary equipment. Each day, the tour boat leaves at 9 AM, 12 noon and 3 PM. The tour lasts about 2.5 hours with about 90 minutes of snorkeling time in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is located at 102601 Overseas Hwy (Mile Marker 102.6), Key Largo, FL 33037. To reach the staff by phone, call (305) 451-6300. |

During the snorkeling tour, I also captured a few short video clips with my Canon SD700 IS digital camera in a Canon WP-DC5 underwater camera case. I edited these together into a short movie.
