This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & the
revised 2016 model year) Mazda CX-5 SUV in changing a burnt out
license plate light bulb in the tailgate door. Owners of other Mazda vehicles such as the Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 5, Mazda 6, CX-7, CX-9, and the MX-5 Miata may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement bulb is part number 2825. You can also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 168, W5W, 158, 194 or a compatible LED unit. The only tool needed to replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry off the translucent plastic lens cover. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |
The first step is
to gently pry off the translucent plastic lens cover on the license plate
light bulb housing with the small flathead screwdriver. Set the lens cover aside in a safe place. If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket. |
