Lower Access Cover
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 3rd generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) MINI Cooper in changing a burnt out fog, DRL (daytime running lamp) or parking light bulb in the lower light housing inside the front bumper cover.

Owners of other MINI models or some smaller BMW vehicles such as the Cooper S, "JCW" John Cooper Works, Convertible, Hatch, Clubman, One, One First, One D, Coupe, Roadster, Countryman, Paceman, 3 Series, 318i, 328i, 320i, 323i, 325i, 330i, 340i, 230i, M240i, M2, M3, M4, i3, 228i, 230i, 128i, 135i, Z3, Z4 and Z8 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Fog Light # H8 (or an H11 bulb for 2013 and earlier MINI models), DRL # 2504 or PSX24W and Parking Light # 2825 (or W5W).

No tools are needed to access and replace any of the bulbs.

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise
Access Cover Removed
Rear of Light Housing
The first step is to turn the steering wheel all the way in the opposite direction of the burnt out light bulb.

Moving the front wheels will create more working room in the wheel well area.

There are two round access covers in the front of the black plastic wheel well liner.

The lower cover allows access to the fog, parking and DRL bulbs in the lower housing.

Rotate the cover 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out of the wheel well liner.

Once the cover is out of the way, you'll be able to see the bulb sockets.

(This 2019 MINI Cooper Hatch is not equipped with fog lights.)

If your MINI is equipped with fog lights, it will be at the bottom of the housing.

Rotate the base of the fog light bulb 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out of the housing.

Detach the electrical connector from the base of the old fog light bulb.

Avoid touching the glass part of the new halogen bulb with your fingers or anything greasy in the wheel well or engine bay. If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol.

Install a new H8 fog light bulb (or H11 for earlier MINI model years).

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise
Pull Out Old Parking Light
Push In New Light Bulb
The small black plastic parking light bulb socket is located at the top inner corner of the housing.

Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out of the housing.

Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket.

Push in a new number 2825 miniature wedge base light bulb straight into the socket.

Empty Bulb Housing
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock
Pinch Sides - Remove DRL
Re-insert the parking light bulb into the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction.

The DRL light bulb socket is located at the top middle area of the housing.

It has a tan and black plastic socket.

Squeeze together the two retaining clips on the socket before pulling it straight out.

Press Release Tab
Disconnect Power Plug
Push On New Bulb
Then push in the black plastic release tab on the electrical connector before pulling it off the base of the old light bulb.

Push a new number 2504 (also known as # PSX24W) light bulb straight on to the electrical connector.

Line Up DRL Bulb
Push To Secure Clips
Fog At Bottom of Housing
Push the new DRL bulb straight into the housing.

You should feel or hear the two retaining clips "click" securely into place.

Replace Access Cap
Test New Parking Light
Light Bulbs Replaced
Replace the access cover by twisting it 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction.

To test the new bulbs, turn on the parking lights, turn on the headlights and activate the fog light switch (if equipped).

Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
