This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 3rd generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) MINI Cooper in changing a burnt out fog, DRL (daytime running lamp) or parking light bulb in the lower light housing inside the front bumper cover.

Owners of other MINI models or some smaller BMW vehicles such as the Cooper S, "JCW" John Cooper Works, Convertible, Hatch, Clubman, One, One First, One D, Coupe, Roadster, Countryman, Paceman, 3 Series, 318i, 328i, 320i, 323i, 325i, 330i, 340i, 230i, M240i, M2, M3, M4, i3, 228i, 230i, 128i, 135i, Z3, Z4 and Z8 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Fog Light # H8 (or an H11 bulb for 2013 and earlier MINI models), DRL # 2504 or PSX24W and Parking Light # 2825 (or W5W).

No tools are needed to access and replace any of the bulbs.

Rear of Light Housing
The first step is to turn the steering wheel all the way in the opposite direction of the burnt out light bulb.

Moving the front wheels will create more working room in the wheel well area.

There are two round access covers in the front of the black plastic wheel well liner.

The lower cover allows access to the fog, parking and DRL bulbs in the lower housing.

Rotate the cover 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out of the wheel well liner.

Once the cover is out of the way, you'll be able to see the bulb sockets.

(This 2019 MINI Cooper Hatch is not equipped with fog lights.)

If your MINI is equipped with fog lights, it will be at the bottom of the housing.

Rotate the base of the fog light bulb 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out of the housing.

Detach the electrical connector from the base of the old fog light bulb.

Avoid touching the glass part of the new halogen bulb with your fingers or anything greasy in the wheel well or engine bay. If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol.

Install a new H8 fog light bulb (or H11 for earlier MINI model years).
