This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 3rd generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) MINI Cooper in changing the windshield window wiper blades.

Owners of other MINI models or some smaller BMW vehicles such as the Cooper S, "JCW" John Cooper Works, Convertible, Hatch, Clubman, One, One First, One D, Coupe, Roadster, Countryman, Paceman, 3 Series, 318i, 328i, 320i, 323i, 325i, 330i, 340i, 230i, M240i, M2, M3, M4, i3, 228i, 230i, 128i, 135i, Z3, Z4 and Z8 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM blade sizes in inches are as follows: Driver Side 18" and Passenger Side 19".

(Yes, the driver side wiper blade is shorter than the passenger side.)

A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part numbers are as follows: Aero 19" & 18", PIAA 95045 & PIAA 97048, Anco 31-19 & Anco 31-18, Michelin 14519 & Michelin 8518 and Valeo 80018191S (18" & 19" combo).

The only tool needed to remove and replace the wiper blades is a small plastic pry bar tool.

Rotate - Pull Off Old Blade
The first step is to lift the wiper arm off the windshield until it remains in the raised position by itself.

Then use the plastic pry bar tool to gently lift up the bottom edge of the plastic locking tab located at the center of the old wiper blade.

Swing open the lock tab away from the windshield.

Firmly push down the old wiper blade until the plastic mounting bracket slides out of the metal hook at the end of the wiper arm.

Rotate the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm until it just about perpendicular (at a 90 degree angle) with the wiper arm.

Pull the old blade off the hook at the end of the wiper arm.

Attach Blade To Arm
Place a towel on the windshield to protect the glass from being scratched, chipped, cracked or shattered just in case the metal wiper arm smacks down on to the window while you are replacing the wiper blade.

I usually buy the Aero 19" & 18" combo pack of wiper blades since they have excellent reviews on Amazon.

Line up the new wiper blade with the end of the wiper arm.

The rubber blade should be pointing out away from the windshield.

Pass the metal hook at the end of the wiper arm through the hole in the center of the new wiper blade.

Rotate the new wiper blade until it is parallel with the wiper arm.

Firmly slide the wiper blade up and away from the windshield until the plastic mounting bracket "clicks" securely into the metal hook at the end of the wiper arm.

Wiper Blades Replaced
Double check that the new wiper blade is securely attached to the wiper arm.

Gently lower the new wiper blade down to the windshield.

For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the windshield with a glass treatment product that will repel water such as Rain-X.

Be sure to record the wiper blade change in your vehicle's service records.
