The Mote
Marine Laboratory & Aquarium is located on City Island at 1600 Ken
Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, FL 34236. Before our trip to Tampa, we had joined the Zoological Society of Florida through the Miami Metro Zoo. The ZSF is affiliated with the AZA (Association of Zoos & Aquariums). The Mote Marine Aquarium was on the AZA's list of "Reciprocal Zoos & Aquariums", so we were granted complimentary general admission by presenting our ZSF membership cards. The admission prices are $17 for adults, $16 for senior citizens over 65 years of age, and $12 for children 4 to 12 years old. If you live in the Tampa or Sarasota area, consider joining the Mote Marine Aquarium's annual membership program which is only $50 and includes free admission for the year. |

If you get hungry during your visit to the Mote Marine Aquarium, check out the retro 1950's style "Deep Sea Diner", which is run by the same people who own the popular Sarasota restaurant "Michael's On East". Our visit took place during the late afternoon after we had just eaten lunch, so we didn't get a chance to try out the food at the "Deep Sea Diner". | ||

If you have the time, there's also an "Eco Boat Tour" offered at the Mote Marine Aquarium that takes you out into the waters of Sarasota Bay. The excursion is conducted by the "Sarasota Bay Explorers" private tour company. During the boat ride, the tour guide captures sea creatures for the guests to admire and then releases them back into the water. One of the highlights of the Eco Boat Tour is the dolphins which are commonly seen swimming nearby. Combination tickets that include the Mote Marine Aquarium as well as the Eco Boat Tour cost $36 for adults and $29 for children 4 to 12. |
