This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Nissan Qashqai and the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport (USA) in changing a burnt out cargo area (also known as the "trunk") light bulb or upgrading both of the lights to brighter LED units.

Owners of other Nissan, Infiniti or related Renault vehicles such as the Rogue, X-Trail, Note, Versa, Altima, Maxima, Sentra, Juke, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, Frontier, Titan, Quest, NV200, Q50, Q60, QX50, QX60, QX80 and Renault Kadjar may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) light bulb was marked as part number HT A12V5W * 99 and measured about 27mm to 28mm in length.

The compatible replacement aftermarket "festoon" style light bulb part numbers include the following DE3021 (1.1" or 27.94mm long) and DE3022 (1.15" or 29.21mm long).

If you'd like to have brighter cargo area lights that will also last much longer before burning out compared to the traditional incandescent bulbs, install some DE3021 LED or DE3022 LED bulbs.

You could probably also fit a larger DE3175 (1.23" or 31mm long) festoon bulb into the socket by bending back the metal electrical contacts.

The only tool needed to access and replace the two bulbs is either a flat head screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver into the notch at the front edge of the light housing.

Gently pry out the front edge of the housing (located closer to the front of the car).

Make sure the light housing is flush with the cargo area's interior panel at every edge.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work, remove it from the socket, rotate it 180 degrees and push it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are "polarized" and only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.

Don't forget to write down the bulb change in your car's service records.
