This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Nissan Qashqai and the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport (USA) in taking off the plastic interior door panels in order to upgrade the OEM speakers, add soundproofing material, fix a faulty electrical switch or change a broken power window motor.

Owners of other Nissan, Infiniti or related Renault vehicles such as the Rogue, X-Trail, Note, Versa, Altima, Maxima, Sentra, Juke, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, Frontier, Titan, Quest, NV200, Q50, Q60, QX50, QX60, QX80 and Renault Kadjar may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The tools needed to complete this procedure include a plastic pry bar tool, a flat head screwdriver, a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet and possibly also a pop rivet removal tool.

The OEM speakers can be removed with the same 10mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet.

The first two steps are to fully lower the power window and open the door.

Please proceed with caution and at your own risk. If you are working in a cold climate, it would be best to bring the car into a a garage. I would also recommend using a space heater to warm up the garage to help prevent the plastic pieces from being brittle and less likely to crack.

Use the small plastic pry bar tool to very gently pry off the plastic trim piece that surrounds the door opener handle and the door lock rocker switch.

If you do break a retaining clip or two, the trim cover should still have enough remaining clips to stay firmly in place.

Set the trim cover aside in a safe place.

Move down to the door pull handle located in between the switch panel and the door opener handle.

Use the plastic pry bar tool to gently pull off the plastic trim cover on the door pull handle.

You may need to use a flat head screwdriver to release the one retaining clip located near the door opener handle.

Continue pulling out the pop rivets all along the bottom edge and both sides of the door panel.

There is another white plastic pop rivet situated near the top inner corner of the door panel close to where the top of the metal door pull handle bracket was previously attached.

Pull the old speaker straight out of the door frame.

The OEM front and rear door speakers in the 2017 to 2020 Rogue Sport can be replaced with aftermarket car speakers in the following sizes: 6 1/2" and 6 3/4".

(Some aftermarket speakers might require a mounting bracket or a wiring harness adapter.)

I highly recommend applying some sound deadener material to the metal door frame and the back side of the plastic door panel to help prevent vibrations and rattles when you crank up the volume.

To replace the door panel, hold it near the door frame.

Pull the wire harness for the switch panel out of the opening just in front of the armrest cushion.

Lower the top edge of the plastic door panel on to the upper lip of the metal door frame.
