2013 Fortwo Wipers
Raise Wiper Arm
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014) Smart Fortwo compact city car in changing the front windshield window wiper blades.

Owners of any Smart Fortwo models or trim levels such as the coupe hatchback, cabriolet or "cabrio", electric, pure, passion, forfour, prime and proxy may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM wiper blade sizes in inches are as follows: Driver Side 22" and Passenger Side 21".

A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part numbers are as follows: Bosch 22OE & Bosch 21OE, Rain-X 5079279-2 & Rain-X 5079278-2, Michelin 8022 & Michelin 8021, Trico Force 25-220 & Trico Force 25-210, PIAA 97055 & PIAA 97053 and Anco C-22-OE & Anco C-21-OE.

No tools are needed to remove and replace the wiper blades.

Rotate Away Wiper Blade
Pinch Together Tabs
The first step is to lift the wiper arm off the windshield window until it remains in the raised position by itself.

Rotate the old wiper blade away from the metal wiper arm at a slight angle.

Locate the two small ribbed plastic tabs that slightly resemble insect wings.

Squeeze together the two tabs towards each other to release the retaining clips.

While still holding the two tabs together, lift the wiper blade mounting bracket away from the wiper metal arm.

Pull Out Mounting Bracket
Pull Wiper Blade Off Arm
Continue rotating the old wiper blade away from the metal wiper arm.

Lift the wiper blade off the small metal hook at the end of the wiper arm.

Towel - Protect Glass
Line Up Hook & Slot
Place a towel on the windshield to protect the window from being cracked, shattered, chipped or shattered just in case the metal wiper arm smacks down on to the glass while you are replacing the wiper blade.

I recommend buying the Bosch 22OE and Bosch 21OE wiper blades since they have excellent reviews on Amazon.

Line up the new wiper blade assembly with the rubber blade pointing away from the metal wiper arm.

Attach New Wiper Blade
Snap In Retaining Clips
Lower the opening at the top of the wiper blade mounting bracket over the small metal hook at the end of the wiper arm.

Rotate the new wiper blade until it is almost parallel with the wiper arm.

Pinch together the two tapered triangular shaped plastic tabs and push them in to the mounting bracket.

Double check that the new wiper blade is securely attached to the wiper arm.

For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the windshield and applying a window treatment product that will repel water such as Rain-X.
