The Pier
A.K.A. the "St. Pete Pier" is one of the most popular tourist
attractions in the city of Saint Petersburg on Florida's west coast. We were admiring the exotic cars at the Festivals of Speed event in North Straub Park before walking over to the nearby Spa Beach and then continuing on to The Pier. The Pier is located at 800 2nd Ave. NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33701. Visitors are welcome from Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 8 PM, on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 9 PM and on Sundays from 11 AM to 7 PM. Parking is easy at The Pier since there are two parking lots (Dolphin & Pelican), valet parking for just $4 and coin operated parking meters along 2nd Ave NE. Some of the recreational opportunities at The Pier include dining, shopping, fishing, sightseeing, and pelican feeding. |

Another feature of this attraction is The Pier Aquarium that contains 11 tanks filled with marine life from around the world, educational displays, and a museum store.

There are a variety of restaurants and eateries at The Pier including Fresco's Waterfront Bistro, Columbia Restaurant, Cha Cha Coconuts Tropical Bar & Grill, Burger Bay, Cones on the Pier Ice Cream, Cafe Morrow, and Hong Kong Corner.
Shopping enthusiasts who visit The Pier will be delighted at the wide variety of items at the stores here that include Just Hats, "DesTnation", Sunwatchers, Bay Breeze, Pier Winery, Peppers on the Pier, MJ Toons, Rainforest Gifts, DD Collectables, St. Petersburg Candle Gallery, Lost In Time, Crystal Mirage Gallery, and the Croatian Naive Art gallery.

To take a tour of Tampa Bay, jump on the Dolphin Queen 70 passenger boat for a 90 minute ride that costs just $22 for adults and $14 for children (3-12). To go on your own custom boat tour, you can rent electric vessels from The Electric Marina for $40 per half hour, or $75 per hour. The Electric Marina also has kayaks and tandem water bikes for rent.
If you'd rather stay on dry land and explore St. Petersburg, Wheel Fun Rentals in The Pier has a selection of different bicycles to rent. The bikes available for rent include single person, two person (tandem), "choppers", beach cruisers, mountain bikes, strollers and 2 or 4 person "surrey" (4 wheels) pedal powered vehicles.

To go fishing at The Pier, just show up and visit the Pier Bait House where you can rent rods and reels, or buy bait, snacks, and also pelican food.

While enjoying the
view from nearby Spa Beach and the upper level of The Pier, I captured two
short video clips of powerboats in town for the
Festivals of Speed event leaving the marina and speeding out into Tampa
Bay. To view the video clip, click on the blue link below. To download the
video to your hard drive, right click on it and choose "Save Target As" or
