This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015) Toyota Prius hybrid hatchback in replacing a burnt out overhead dome light bulb or upgrading it to a brighter LED unit.

Owners of the previous 2nd generation 2004-2009 Prius and other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, Camry, Sienna, Avalon, Highlander, RAV4, FJ Cruiser, Venza, 4Runner, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra, tC, FR-S, iQ, xD, and xB may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement dome light bulb is part # DE3175 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko, Putco and PIAA.

You can also use a brighter DE3175 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to replace the dome light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the translucent lens cover.

Press Metal Release Tab
Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver into one of the two notches located at the front edge of the dome light bulb lens cover.

Gently pry out one side of the lens cover, move the screwdriver to the other notch on the same edge of the lens cover and continue prying out the cover.

Set the dome light lens cover aside in a safe place.

Press outward on the metal tab to release the old dome light bulb.

Slide the On / Off / Door switch to the "On" position to test the new dome light bulb.

Test New Dome Light Bulb
Line up the dome light bulb lens cover over the housing and insert the rear edge first.

Then gently snap the front edge in to place.

Slide the switch to the "Door" position so that the dome light turns on whenever a passenger door is opened.
