This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015) Toyota Prius hybrid hatchback in replacing a burnt out vanity mirror light bulb or upgrading them to brighter LED units.

Owners of the previous 2nd generation 2004-2009 Prius and other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, Camry, Sienna, Avalon, Highlander, RAV4, FJ Cruiser, Venza, 4Runner, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra, tC, FR-S, iQ, xD, and xB may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement vanity mirror light bulb is part number 168 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, and PIAA.

Other compatible mini wedge base bulbs include the # 2825, W5W, 194 or a brighter LED unit.

The only tool needed to replace the vanity mirror light bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the translucent lens cover away from the headliner.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the headliner panel and the vanity mirror light's translucent plastic lens cover.

To avoid damaging the fabric headliner or plastic lens cover, you can choose to cover the blade of the screwdriver with a thin cloth or instead use a plastic pry bar tool.

Gently pry out the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place.

Try to avoid using excessive force.

The lens cover should pop out relatively easily.

Be careful when you remove the old light bulb.

If it was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Grasp the old light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it out.

Push in a new # 168 bulb straight into the socket.

You may also use other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 2825, W5W, 194 or a compatible LED bulb.

Test the new light bulb by sliding open the vanity mirror cover.
