This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and the face lifted 2015 & 2016 model year) Toyota Sienna minivan equipped with the 2GR-FE 3.5L V6 motor in cleaning or changing the engine air filter element.

Owners of other Toyota or Lexus vehicles equipped with the 2GR-FE 3.5L V6 engine such as the Avalon, RAV4, Camry, ES 350, RX 350, Highlander, and Venza may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A few compatible replacement engine air filters with their part numbers are as follows: Toyota 17801-0P051, Wix 49430, Fram CA10755, Beck Arnley 042-1807, Mahle LX 3230, Premium Guard PA6116, Pentius PAB10755, Hastings # AF1453 and K&N 33-2443.

No tools are needed to replace the filter.

A wet/dry shop vacuum can be useful for cleaning the air box and the old filter if you plan on re-using it.

The black plastic engine air box is located at the right rear area of the engine bay closest to the driver's seat.

Release the two metal latches that hold the filter tray in place by flipping them up and then forward.

Slide the filter tray straight up and out of the air box.

Inspect Both Sides
Pull the old filter element out of the tray and inspect both sides.

If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, insects, twigs, leaves and hair, it should be replaced with a new unit.

I recommend buying the genuine OEM Toyota 17801-0P051 engine air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.
