Gently Pry Out Left Side
This automotive maintenance DIY tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015) Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in changing a burnt out dome light bulb located in the headliner above the rear passenger seats.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Matrix, Prius, Camry, Corolla, Sienna, RAV4, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Hilux, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement "festoon" or "fuse" style bulb is part number 578 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, PIAA, GE and Eiko.

You can also use a brighter 578 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the left (driver) side of the lens cover and gently pry it open.

Swing the hinged lens cover open towards the right (passenger) side of the vehicle.

Gently Pry Out Old Bulb
Be careful when you remove the old bulb. If it was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Either pull the bulb out with your thumb and forefinger or carefully pry out one of the metal end caps with the flathead screwdriver.

Test New Dome Light Bulb
Gently snap in the retaining tab on the left (driver) side of the lens cover.

To test the new dome light bulb, slide the switch to the "On" position.

I'd recommend sliding the "On / Off / Door" switch to the "Door" option so that the dome light will illuminate any time a passenger door is opened.
