This automotive maintenance DIY tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015) Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in cleaning or changing the A/C system's cabin air filter element in the HVAC blower motor housing.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Matrix, Prius, Camry, Corolla, Sienna, RAV4, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Hilux, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A few compatible replacement filters with their part numbers include the following: Fram CF10374, TYC 800038P, Purolator C35644, Ecogard XC35644, Installer Champ BE-374, EPAuto CP374, K&N VF2005, Potauto MAP 1013C, OEM CAF100C, ATP GA-10, ACDelco CF3134, Bosch P3752WS, Wix 49358, Pentius PHB5644, Beck Arnley 042-2074 and Mahle LA 765.

No tools are needed to clean and replace the filter.

Pop Off Damper Arm
Push In Glove Box Sides
Release Side Stops
The first few steps are to sit in the front passenger seat, open the glove box and empty out the contents.

Then move to the outer right side of the glove box and gently pull off the dampener arm from its two pronged mounting peg.

Firmly push in the two side walls of the glove box until the plastic stops can be removed from behind the dashboard.

Lower Glove Box
HVAC Blower Motor Housing
Gently Pull Back Clips
Gently lower the glove box down to the passenger floor mat.

The rectangular shaped black plastic filter access cover is held in place to the HVAC blower motor housing by two retaining clips on the top edge.

Gently pull back the tabs towards yourself to release the retaining clips.

2nd Retaining Clip
Swing Open Hinged Cover
Slide Out Old Air Filter
Once the two clips have been released (left and right side), you can swing open the hinged filter access panel.

Carefully slide out the old filter and keep it level to prevent from dropping debris in your truck.

Inspect Both Sides
micronAir TY02116P
Back Side of Filter
Inspect both sides of the old air filter.

If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, pollen, hair, insects, leaves, twigs and other debris, it should be replaced with a new element.

I recommend buying the TYC 800038P cabin air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

If you've had a problem with your A/C system smelling musty or moldy, try using the Fram CF10374 "Fresh Breeze" filter which has Arm & Hammer baking soda and carbon in it to help absorb odors.
