Key Fob Battery Replacement Guide
How to change the battery in the key fob
remote control for a 2nd generation 2005 to 2015 Toyota Tacoma truck.

This
automotive maintenance DIY tutorial was specifically written to
assist owners of the second generation (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008,
2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015) Toyota Tacoma pickup
truck in changing the battery in the key fob remote control for the
keyless entry system. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Matrix, Prius, Camry, Corolla, Sienna, RAV4, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Hilux, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement coin cell (A.K.A. "button" or "watch") battery is part number CR2032 which is available from various manufacturers such as Panasonic, Sony, GE, Duracell, Maxell and Energizer. The only tool needed to access and replace the battery is a small flathead screwdriver. You may also be able to use a coin, butter knife or a nail file. |

Remove Remote Unit |
The first step is
to separate the ignition key and metal key ring from the fob remote control
unit. Locate the small notch on the bottom right corner of the fob near the red "Panic" button. Insert the screwdriver, butter knife, Quarter or nail file in to the notch and gently pry apart the two halves of the fob. Pull the rubber buttons piece and the remote control unit out of the fob's rear cover. |

Carefully push the
old CR2032 battery out of the screwdriver or slide it out with your finger. Try to avoid scratching or damaging the green circuit board. |

Slide a new # CR2032 3 volt coin cell battery in to the socket with the "+" positive side facing up towards you and the "-" negative side facing down. | ||

Replace the remote
control unit in to the top half of the fob with the "Unlock", "Lock" and
"Panic" buttons orientated in the correct position. Line up the two halves of the key fob. |

Test New Key Fob Battery |
Gently push
together the two halves of the key fob until they snap back in to place. Make sure that the front and back cover of the key fob are flush together with no part of the rubber buttons piece visible at the edges. To test the new key fob battery, stand near your Tacoma and press the "Unlock" or "Lock" buttons. If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash and hear the door locks opening or closing. For more,
