The U.S.S. Alabama (BB-60) is currently
on display as a military museum located in Mobile Bay Alabama in
Battleship Park just off the I-10 interstate highway. Construction of the USS Alabama, a South Dakota class battleship, began in February 1940 in the Norfolk Virginia Navy Yard and was completed two years later in Feb. 1942. "Shakedown Training" of the ship's crew was done in November of 1942 and then the USS Alabama saw active duty in World War II from 1943-1945. The ship was donated to the "USS Alabama Battleship Commission" and the citizens of the state in 1964 with the museum being officially opened in 1965. I hope you enjoy the 264 pictures that I took while visiting the U.S.S. Alabama (BB-60) and USS Drum Submarine (SS-228). |
