This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014,
2015, 2016 and 2017) Volkswagen Tiguan SUV in changing a burnt out
dome light bulb (or upgrade them both to brighter LED units) in the
housing attached to the headliner above the second row of passenger
seats. Owners of other VW or Audi vehicles such as the Jetta, Passat, CC, Atlas, Touareg, Golf, Beetle, A3, S3, RS 3, A4, S4, A5, A6, S6, A7, S7, RS 7, A8, Q3, Q5, TT and Q7 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb is part number 6418. You can also use a brighter 6418 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

Old Light Bulb Removed |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces or tearing the fabric headliner, you may
choose to either cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber
cloth or instead use a plastic automotive
trim panel removal tool. Insert the blade of the screwdriver in between the edge of the translucent plastic lens cover and the grey plastic light housing. Gently pry out the lens cover. You may need to re-insert the tool into another area of the lens cover. Try to avoid using excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily. Set the lens cover aside in a safe place. Be careful when you remove the old light bulb. If the old bulb was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Grasp the old light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it out of the socket. |

The OEM light bulb
was marked as part number GE 7546F (12V C5W 544 II).
Carefully insert a new number 6418 festoon style light bulb straight into the socket. If you would like to have brighter dome lights, install some compatible LED festoon bulbs. Tip - If the new LED bulb doesn't work at first, pull it out of the socket, rotate it 180 degrees and push it back into place. Some LED bulbs are "polarized" and will only work when orientated in the correct position. Test the new bulb by moving the "Off / Door / On" switch to the "On" position. |

Testing New Dome Lights |
Line up the
translucent plastic lens cover with the light housing. Gently snap the lens cover back into place. I recommend moving the switch to the "Door" position so that the overhead dome lights will turn on when ever the driver door or a passenger door is opened. For more, please check out my other
