Key Fob Battery Replacement Guide
How to change a dead battery in the smart
key fob for a 1st generation 2010 to 2017 Volvo XC60 with the part number.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015,
2016 and 2017) Volvo XC60 SUV in changing a dead battery in the
smart or "intelligent" key fob remote control for the keyless entry
and push button start systems. Owners of other Volvo vehicles such as the XC90, XC70, S90, S80, S60, S40, C30, C70, V90, V70, V60 and V40 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement coin cell (A.K.A. "button" or "watch") battery is part number CR2430 which is available from various manufacturers such as Energizer, Sony, Duracell, Panasonic, Renata and Toshiba. The only tool needed to access and replace the key fob battery is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

The first two steps
are to turn over the key fob and locate the silver metal switch. Slide the silver metal switch to release the backup / emergency metal ignition key. Pull the metal ignition key straight out of the fob. Locate the small slot on the bottom edge of the fob where the metal key used to reside. |

Gently Pop Out Rear Cover |
Pry Out Back Cover |
Insert the blade of
a small flathead screwdriver or the plastic automotive
pry bar tool in to the slot. Gently pry up the corner of the rear fob cover. Then remove the screwdriver and re-insert it in between the corner of the back cover and the outer frame of the fob. Carefully pry out the rear cover of the fob. |

Turn over the rear
cover to access the battery socket. Gently pull out the old battery with your finger nail or use the small flathead screwdriver. Try to avoid bending or damaging the metal electrical contacts. |

Install New Battery |
Push a new number CR2430 3 volt lithium cell battery in to the battery holder with the "+" positive side facing down and the "-" negative side facing up towards you. | ||

Line Up Two Halves |
Snap On Rear Cover |
Line up the rear
cover with the fob housing. Gently pop the back panel back in to place. Make sure that the two halves of the fob are flush together on every side. |

Test Key Fob - Lights Flash |
Re-insert the metal
ignition key back in to its slot. To test the new battery, stand near your SUV and press the "Unlock" or "Lock" buttons. If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash and also hear the door locks opening or closing. For more, check out all of my
