The Western Sky
Aviation Warbird Museum is located at the SGU (St. George Regional) Airport
and features a variety of military aircraft. The address is 4196 S. Airport Parkway, St. George, UT 84790 and the museum is open from 10AM to 4PM from Wednesday to Saturday (closed on Sunday). If you'd like to visit on a Monday or Tuesday, call Jack at (435) 669-0655 for an appointment. There is a suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family. Just a few of the airplanes that are on display include a Russian Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15bis (Chinese variant), a MiG-17 (USSR), a British BAC Jet Provost, a Northrop T-38 Talon, a Northrop F-5B Freedom Fighter, a Cessna T-37 Tweet, a Cessna A-37 Dragonfly "Super Tweet" and an Aero L-39 Albatros (sometimes misspelled as "Albatross"). There are a variety of other military airplanes that occasionally visit the museum including a Yakovlev Yak 52, a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star and a North American Aviation P-51 Mustang. Other items on display at the museum include airplane scale models, uniforms, helmets, jet engines, historical photographs, news articles, flags, service medals, a U.S. Navy communications console, a Vietnam era rubber map, an ultralight canvas plane named "Annie", an early steam powered airplane and flight suits. I was fortunate to have Bob as my tour guide for the morning. He has a wealth of knowledge about all of the items in the museum and his personal anecdotes are very entertaining. If you plan on being in St. George or anywhere in Southwest Utah, I highly recommend adding the Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum to your itinerary. |
