During March in '06 we went to Cancun Mexico for Spring Break 2006 and we stayed at the Omni Cancun Hotel & Villas on Kukulcan Blvd.

On previous trips I have stayed at the Melia Turquesa Hotel and one of the Omni Villas.

We arrived on a Friday morning after our flight on Mexicana (operated by American Airlines) from Miami (airport code MIA). I took a few pictures of the room before we created a mess with our clothes and luggage.

We got a room with a large California King sized bed. It was very comfortable and I think it had a fluffy pillow top.

The room also had a nice color TV with a decent selection of channels including American stations such as TBS and CNN. Outside of our sliding glass door was the balcony with two lounge benches and a drink table.

Our room was on the "lagoon" side as opposed to the pool and beach side. It was still a nice view since we could see both the lagoon and the Gulf of Mexico. We also had a bird's eye view of all the construction work that was still going on all over the city of Cancun.

In the first two pictures in this row you can see the Oasis Cancun Hotel, which is a very popular hotel with college kids from the USA going on Spring Break. The past few years MTV has set up shop at the Oasis Hotel and also at other various locations around town. The Real World, Road Rules and other MTV celebrities stay at the Oasis.

The only thing that was missing in our room at the Omni Cancun Hotel that had been there the year before was the mini-fridge. I asked the bell hop about the missing refrigerator and he told me that they were being replaced with new units. I like my water, soda and other drinks super cold, so it wasn't too great having to run to the ice machine constantly.

This first picture in this row is of the small convenience store and the lagoon on the other side Kukulcan Blvd. The other two pictures are of my HP Ipaq HX4700 PDA which is hooked up to a travel power charger and a pair of small speakers that I brought to have some music in the room. It really motivates us to get ready to go out at night when we have some club music such as the Ludacris that you can see on the screen.

The last three pictures on this page are of our view from the balcony at night. You can see the bright flood lights where there are construction workers laboring all night. Construction and work on the city goes on around the clock. I never noticed any noise though so I'm guessing that they do the quieter tasks at night.
