Lancer Tail Light Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out brake, turn
signal, reverse, parking or side marker bulb in a 2008-2015 Mitsubishi Lancer.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the eighth generation (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013,
2014 & 2015) Mitsubishi Lancer in changing a burnt out brake,
rear turn signal, side marker, parking or reverse bulb in the tail
light assemblies. Owners of other Mitsubishi vehicles such as the Mirage, Lancer Evolution ("Evo"), Outlander, 3000GT, Diamante, Eclipse, Endeavor, Galant, Montero, ASX, Triton L200 and Raider may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Brake # 7443, Rear Turn Signal # 7440, Side Marker # 2825, Parking Light # 2825 and Reverse Light # 7440. The only tools needed to replace the bulbs is a Phillips head screwdriver and either an automotive panel pry tool or a flathead screwdriver. |

Pull Off Tail Light Housing |
The first two steps
are to open the trunk lid and then move to the side of the vehicle with the
burnt out tail light bulb. Remove the two screws along the inner edge of the tail light housing by turning them counterclockwise with a Phillips head screwdriver. Set the two screws aside in a safe place. |

Brake Light Bulb Socket |
The tail light
housing is still held in place to the car by two metal pegs or "spikes"
inserted in to plastic grommets. Try to pull the tail light housing straight off the rear corner of the vehicle. If you have trouble removing the tail light housing, very carefully pry along the outer edge of the housing with a plastic automotive panel pry bar tool or a flathead screwdriver covered with a thin cloth. Avoid using excessive force to prevent from cracking or breaking off the plastic outer lip of the tail light housing. Turn over the housing and rest it on the bumper to access the bulb sockets. |

Remove Bulb Socket |
Pull Out Old Bulb |
The Brake Light
bulb socket is located at the inner edge of the housing closest to the
trunk. Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and then pull it straight out of the assembly. Pull the old brake light bulb straight out of the socket. |

Push In New # 7443 Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Turn Signal Bulb Socket |
Push a new #
7443 bulb straight in to the socket. Re-insert the brake light bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. The Rear Turn Signal bulb socket is located near the center of the housing. Rotate the orange plastic bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 7440 bulb. | ||

Side Marker Bulb Socket |
Pull Out Old # W5W Bulb |
Re-insert the bulb
socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in
place. The Rear Side Marker bulb socket is located at the outer edge of the tail light housing. Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 2825 (or # W5W) bulb. |

Push On Tail Light Housing |
Re-insert the side
marker bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to
secure it in place. Line up the two metal pegs or "spikes" on the back side of the housing with their corresponding plastic grommets on the rear corner of the vehicle. Carefully push the housing back in to place. |

Re-Insert Phillips Screws |
Tighten Screws Clockwise |
Reverse & Parking Light |
Re-insert the two
Phillips head screws along the inner edge of the housing and tighten them in
the clockwise direction. Try to avoid over tightening the two screws to prevent from cracking the plastic inner edge of the housing. The Reverse and Parking Light bulbs are located in a separate housing attached to the trunk lid. |

Trunk Lid Carpet Liner |
Pry Out Center of Pop Rivet |
Remove Plastic Fastener |
Open the trunk lid
and locate the plastic pop rivet fasteners on the carpeted trunk lid liner. Gently pry out the center part of each pop rivet with a small flathead screwdriver before removing the entire fastener. |

Pry Out Other Pop Rivet |
3 Pop Rivets Removed |
|
Remove at least
three of the pop rivets surrounding the inner tail light housing. Set the fasteners aside in a safe place. |

Pull Back Trunk Lid Liner |
Reverse Bulb Socket |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Gently pull back
the trunk lid liner to access the bulb sockets. Rotate the larger grey plastic reverse bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. |

Pull Out Old Reverse Bulb |
Push In New # 7440 Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Pull the old bulb
straight out of the socket and push in a new #
7440 bulb. Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Parking Light Bulb Socket |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Pull Out Old # W5W Bulb |
Rotate the small
parking light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out
of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 2825 (or # W5W) bulb. |

Re-Insert Bulb Socket |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Replace Trunk Lid Liner |
Re-insert the
parking light bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise
to secure it in place. Push the trunk lid liner back in to place. |

Re-Insert Fasteners |
Pop In Center Part - Secure |
Replace Other Pop Rivets |
Re-insert the pop rivets and push in the center piece to secure each fastener in place. | ||

Test New Tail Light Bulbs |
Testing Reverse Light Bulbs |
Test the new tail
light bulbs by having someone step on the brake pedal, activate the hazard
